Distance learning A levels - what do I get for my money?

I've been looking into taking an A level by distance learning. The only thing is, I'm not sure what I am paying my £200-odd for. I'd have to pay exam fees on top, and arrange my own exam entry, the syllabus is availiable on the website of the exam board, and I can buy past papers to check I am on the right lines.

So is my £200 just buying some books? Because I've got plenty of them...

I've done OU in the past, and that had specially tailored textbooks, tutorials, a tutor to ring up and TMAs that were marked by the tutor, and included a residential and all exam fees. So, for my £500, I got a years worth totally included, and that was a higher level.

I was looking at ICS - has anyone studied with them? Or can recommend somewhere else? I'm looking at History, ideally.
