Primary Schools in Harrogate?

Hi - am relatively new to mumsnet discussions but have found it to be really helpful so am hoping there are some mums who can give advice on good primary schools in Harrogate. We are ideally looking for ones that might feed into Harrogate Grammar or St Aidans - any views on either of those two secondary schools would be really interesting to hear aswell. We're looking to move to the area so are basically going to pick the schools and try to find a house based on the school area.

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts. Many thanks.

Pretty much all the primaries here are good. If you are set on one of those secondaries you are probably best to look for houses near them (although living close won't make any difference with St Aidens) PM me if you want to talk about specific schools - I know about a few and I am a primary school teacher so have a bit of insight!

Brilliant thank you - have just PM'd you! Out of interest why did you mention that at St Aiden's location won't make a difference?

Because it is a church school and the only requirement is that you live in the diocese which goes as far out as Ripon.

I haven't recieved a PM

Harrogate grammar is an outstanding school - officially and in the view of the staff, most of the kids and parents. Catchment areas are changing so would check them carefully on the north yorks county council website, but it is the sort of school that anyone would be happy to send their child to, and many of the staff do so - areal vote of confidence in the school Grin

oh btw HGS takes kids from lots of different primaries - there are not really specific feeder schools as such, all done on catchment. Quite a few students come from private preps as well.

Loshad is it changing again? I know it changed last year to 20% countryside and 80% town (or similar), but is it changing again because of its academy status?

no - sorry it is staying from the recent change - but just wanted op to be sure they check in case chatting to folk with kids already at the school
