secondary school - the book people

I've just taken over responsibility for this and didn't find the teachers catalogue very interesting. I was asked what I'd like to see in it. So - what would be useful?

Personally I'd like a different catalogue for the children too - with fewer books for the very young and more aimed at adults/ older children. I suggested I'd like books that would help my children learn languages ( or help me keep up with them). What would you like to see?

Sorry bookmad, dont really understand your thread. It is that magazine that the kids sometimes bring home from school and do you mean you are running the whole op or your school? happy to bump it for you.

Yes I do mean the mag that the kids bring home. I am just doing it for my school, as my contribution to raising funds for the school, but we didn't get many catalogues so I rang to order more. I suggested they should have a different catalogue for secondary schools with fewer baby items. Quite sensibily they then asked what I thought should be in it. I'm just interested in what other people would actually like to be able to order from the book people/ school link. I'm especially interested in what secondary teachers think should be in the catalogue the school gets to order from. The large books used in reception aren't going to be much use to us! At the moment we're planning to use any credit the library doesn't want to get books the PA can use for fund raising.

Not secondary yet, but do have a dd of 10. I agree that a lot of the stuff seems aimed at much younger kids. I'd like a selection of stuff aimed at 10 - 16 yr olds, aimed on content, not what the words are. DD sometimes brings books home that she can read easily, but the content is beyond her at the moment.

Would also lke to see more of the 'classic' books.

Also, our local Ottakers often advertises 'if you liked x you'll love this' - usually accurately so have bought both dds books based on that.

books based on TV series seem to go down well. I know the library has a waiting list for Dr Who books. Agree about the classics, although some of them can be rather boring for children. Still Cider with Rosie is considered a classic now!
