Academy schools?

I haven't been on here in ages, now my sons are getting older, but we have just heard that our school is looking at converting to an academy school. Does anyone have any experience of this, or any advice for me?

Thanks in advance

It is generally a good thing in my experience - if the management team and governors are up to scratch. They can do what's best for the school without being hamstrung by the LEA.

How good or bad the school is is almost totally down to how good or bad the HT is.

This won't change by becoming an academy.

So if you're currently pleased with the school, you are likely to remain pleased and vice a versa........

If you're looking for threads, there are some in here recently, not just the one a couple of threads down, but a few others, and also some in Secondary Education. If you do a search you will find some of the current threads.

Many places are finding this a contentious issue.
I am wholly against. So were many of the parents and most of the staff at our local school whose governors have now applied for academy status, but such things don't count when it comes to the final decision.

Thanks for your replies.
DandyDan, I will take a look back, and at the secondary education board too. We are at the early stages at the moment, so I want to read up as much as I can.
