Help! Bilingual DD learning to read

We live in a Spanish speaking country and my 4 yo is just starting to learn letters at school. I would like her to learn English as well.

DOes anyone out there have any experience with bilingual speaking children learning to read and write in 2 languages? Is it best to concentrate on one to start with, or is it possible to learn to read and write in 2 languages simultaneously?

My DD is also 4 and goes to an English/French bilingual school.
The school policy is to teach the basics in English reading first and then add French reading and writing once they have some confidence in the English.
We are also a bilingual English/Japanese household, so at some point we need to work on introducing Japanese too!

DD is 4 and is also starting to read. We are a French-English bilingual household and DD is going to another language school.
She has known her letter in English for a while and gets a bit confused between the sound for E and I, or G and J when reading out loud.
I don't think she has already started at school.
