Hi there we are thinking of moving to Kent and I was wondering if anyone had any views on Ashford School. Also any thoughts on the nicest villages to live around Ashford?

Don't know about Ashford School but Tenterden is a lovely place to live and has a Waitrose and a good leisure center.

The Ashford School is a very good school but it is private AFAIK?

Areas around Ashford to look at include Chartham/Wye/Challock/Boughton Aluph/Boughton Lees - all lovely.

Ashford school has recently been awarded independent school of the year. Great place with happy kids who do well. Not toffy nosed and a good social and cultural mix. Great junior school that has recently been rebuilt so now in fantastic buildings in a spacious green campus. Both children at the school. Both challenged and fulfilled. Endless opportunities eg children have been to China, USA, Barbados, Spain, France, Germany for sports, music, culture and leadership training. School sums up it's approach as Adventurous Learning and puts equal emphasis on academic and other achievements. Most leavers go to good uk and world unis. Highly recommend for day and boarding and only 35min from St Pancras.

Ahhh, one of my old schools!

Lots of lovely areas, I commuted from Whitstable which was about 40 minutes, so maybe a bit far.

Would second opinion of michaelaB...
Totally ih love with the Prep School where my son is a pupil - and the Senior School seems to turn out really confident polished students. Great musical performances and much better atmosphere now they take boys as well.

I heard similar. I wouldn't choose the junior department - lots of lovely prep schools in the villages outside of Ashford which are more friendly, with better pastoral. The all through schools tend to like to hang on their students too so won't help those going for the 11+.

I believe other local schools do a much better job at encouraging confidence in children. Ashford school’s approach has changed in the past few years and has been less inclusive and more military in approach.

Better private schoolsxare St Vallance , Kent College and other schools in the area.Ashford prep school is not an accademic or selective in any way Any one can go there.I found the svhool accademucally disapppinting .

Slovenia1 · 03/02/2020 01:09

That was my experince of it.Poor accademic results and is NOT league table rated in the UKs top private schools league tables at all.Cantebury Kings is , and is very good.Smile

I agree with you Solomum1.Also

I love honest opinions. I was thinking about putting my son in reception class for ashford prep school or spring grove school in Ashford and I don’t want to jump into conclusions or make hasty decisions about where to take my son. I’m still researching and I will be very grateful to hear honest opinions about the best private schools in ashford.

Tallulah0092441 · 28/04/2021 09:55

I've heard Spring Grove school used to be lovely , but no longer as good as it once was . More like a Steiner school and academics are not their strong point.
