Piano is to (music, notes, keyboard) as violin is to (songs, strings, sound)?

Notes and strings

It can't be notes and strings. You play notes on any instrument.

I think she has confused notes and keys too. But hey, your DD knows how to do the questions, which is all that matters.

The teacher clearly can't do verbal reasoning herself so should not be teaching it! Can you send her a link to this thread so she can understand the ins and outs of stringed intstruments because, even if she is confusing notes with keys (which is just bonkers!), the answers are still wrong, because, as we have established, it is the bow that makes the strings make a sound on a violin, and the hammers that make the strings make a sound on the piano. It ought to be 'hammers' and 'bow'.

Or it should be something completely different:

Novel is to (potato/author/armchair) as symphony is to (composer/teacup/door handle).

I'm just glad you all agree with me and dd!

I hope you're not paying for this tutor!

I thought it was the class teacher which was perhaps more worrying....
(or maybe she had the answer book-in which case you wonder who sets them)

TubOfLard · 18/03/2011 13:39

emkana Please have dd verbally ask teacher what his/her reasoning is.

TubOfLard · 18/03/2011 13:42

Flamingo Obviously symphony is to teacup!

Michaelahpurple · 20/03/2011 17:06

But quite often in these VR's the link isn't wholly literal or logical, being a bit more thematic. This clearly is the best answer of those on offer - it isn't arithmatic.

I'm entirely happy with keyboard & strings

they are the bits your fingers touch to change the notes on either instrument
