What in real English is a "Prep School" or "Pre-Prep"

Is it just nursery school? and pre-school?

Prep school is usually for children aged 8 to 13.

Pre-prep is for chidlren younger than that but not sure what age they start.

4-7 I think isn't it? So infanty-age.

I used to teach in a pre-prep which was Reception, Year 1 and Year 2. Can't remember what year the prep school went up to (obviously it startd at Year 3!)

Where mine go , pre prep goes from neusery through to year 2

prep goes from year 3 to year 6. For some schools though I think that prep may go up to age 13 for the common entrance exam.

my ds goes to prep school. he is aged 4 and in reception

In my DS' school, pre-prep was the pre-school year and now he's in Prep 1 (which goes on till Prep 7 in Northern Ireland)

Prep school is yr 3 to yr 8 (ie 7 years old to 13 years old)

Pre-prep is R, Yr1 and Yr2 (ie 4 years old to 7 years old)

Nursery is nursery!

Some private schools call themselves prep schools when they're not. Prep schools prepare children for public school, ie Common Entrance exam at age 13.

Ooooooooh - always wondered what they were preppin for!!!
