How has your parents consultation gone?

Both of my dds started with Oooohhhh Everythings Fiiinnneeeeeee.
I nodded at most things but when dd1s teacher said her spelling was fine I said Well actually I think her spelling is awful.
Went back to the classroom to look at dds books and all of her spelling was Finnneeeeeee in her school books
Must be one of those home/school things to make you look like a right idiot

The one for my 5 year old ds was very convincing a positive.

The one for my 7 year old dd though, was so general it could have been about anybody. The work they left out for me to see was well below the standard of the stuff she does, voluntarily, at home.

Her teacher said, vaguely, 'I have no cause for concern' almost visibly glazing over. I felt she didn't know my dd. It was almost like ...'ah yes. Your dd. Hmmmmm! I know the name.'

She had no idea of my dd's strong points or weaknesses. I told her dd feels the work she gets is a little too easy (that's putting it mildly but I didn't want to insult).

I'm not blaming the teacher because she's probably snowed under with work. My dd is very bright and probably has become accustomed to being ignored at school because she sits quietly and behaves well.

I came out fuming actually.

Ours went really well. Both teachers seem to really understand and like the boys - which is the most important thing at this stage IMO.

Having said that I had a sneaky suspicion that they'd had INSET on how to talk to parents. And maybe they had learned that a helpful thing to say is "I really like having Richard in the class, because ..."

Or am I just an old cynic?

Yeah my Dd's this week.

Dd1's is always the same, she is doing fantastic in everything, in top sets for everything and completeing the work faster than they can give it to her LOL

Dd2s teacher said she was one of the quietest pupils which always makes me laugh hystericaly and want to show them a home video .
She is also doing really well and they are trying her maths group on some very hard work just to see how well they do apparently.

Incidently (sp?) Dd2's class went back to visit their reception class today so their old teachers could see how they were getting on. Dd2's teacher asked her if there was anything about year 1 that she would like to change and dd2 said 'yeah, the teachers'

Had one last night. ds seems to have settled in ok, is making friends and putting his hand up. Will be getting more specific help with his handwriting after half term , which is no bad thing !

had one the other night-was pleased that teacher seemed to have worked my ds out in a short space of time. Her expectations were realistic-she talked of him being "so young" a couple of times. She basically said that if he could he would play in the sand and water all day and that all he really wanted to do was to run about outside shouting!!!
she said that it was a struggle to get him to do letter work-but there was some progress as he had stopped asking her "can I go now" within 5 seconds of starting a task!
His teacher has a dry sense of hmour that ds appears to love. so very pleased
