Anyone tempted by a Free School?

Just wondered if anyone was thinking of sending their child to a Free School or, do you think they are too new?

DH started muttering about one of these a few months ago. Apparently there is one opening up close to our UK home(currently abroad but planning to return in the summer) He applied to it and we got an email yesterday saying they are sending letters out now to say if you've got a place but won't know until we get home at easter.

I have to say I find it all very odd. Apparently they offer very small class sizes with no catchment area so I can't see how that can work. Will wait and see if DD offered a place then have a think about it but I'm not sure, sounds too good to be true.

How do you apply for a place? No chance of affording private fees!

The one we were looking at DH just downloaded a form from their website and posted it off. Got an acknowledgement a week or so later by email and now just waiting to see if DD got a place
