Can anyone go to c of e schools?

I have got a couple of friends who have suddenly become eager church goers in order to get their children into c of e schools? Are children prioritised to these schools according to their religion and how often their parents attend church? I am confused.....

In some areas I think being a regular church goer gives you priority. Would depend how oversubscribed the schools are I think.

In my area (south Norfolk) I think not - all the schools are CofE - most of the kids are not regular church goers.

Our C of E school is alawys over subscribed so they go on whether they have a sibling already at school and then church/Sunday school attnedance

As far as I know, coe schools have to take kids within their catchment areas- but as already stated church attendance can get a place for nnon-local kids and gives priority for local kids over non-churchgoers. siblings first though!!

I worked in a coe school a few years back- there were a family of hindu children who went there- their parents wanted a 'faith' school rather than non and they got int because the lived in the area.

C of E schools can (and do) discriminate on the grounds of belief/church attendance. the admissions policy will vary by school.

Despite the fact that they receive full state funding for their running and capital costs. So you may be paying for a school that can refuse to take your child or religious grounds.

My SIL wanted to send her child into a C of E but it wasn't a nearby school. She didn't want her child to go there for any religious reasons but because she felt it was a better school. She started attending church services, even began to help with Sunday school and eventually her daughter had got a place.

It does depend on the school. Mine go to a C of E school primarily because of catchment and I think that has to be taken into consideration, however for kids outside the catchment religion can be a prime criteria- it is at our school (along with- it is rumoured- how much time / cash you can donate- but we're within catchment so only rumour for me), the one where I grew up semed to select more on religious Practice BUT they recruited through LEA (mine doesn't), so the whole first on list thing had to be looked at too. It was great- if you wanted a school in particular, you put the school you wanted first, followed by the C of E school, the village school down the road with the league table results, and the Catholic School- that way they gave you one the one you wante anyay, it was the only once you had a vague chance at!!!

Depends on the school. Some are VC (voluntary controlled) and these accept people purely on a LEA controlled basis - i.e. by SENS, Siblings, Distance. Some are VA (voluntary assisted) and these can give priority to church-goers/christened people or whatever they like. Ds goes to a VC CE school, and entrance was exactly like for any other school.
