I just found out that EMA is being paid in Scotland, Wales and N.Ireland, Why is England being made to suffer these cuts. The Gov is lying to us all saying EMA has been scrapped. I would like fair play,London is expensive to live in and poorer children here much poorer than other regions. Is this hidden social policy to move poor families out of London. Can we activate students & parents to fight back as they have been conned

The Govt isn't lying - it has been scrapped in England. The other 3 nations enjoy devolved govt so they can use their allocation of the UK money pot to provide for their citizens as they see fit. They choose to keep paying EMA; they do not, it has to be said, have to balance the budget for the UK as a whole, but only for their part of the UK which may be why they can afford lower tuition fees, free prescriptions and EMA.

Disgusting isn't it? I would like to know how it's right to whip EMA off claimants that were supposed to get it awarded for 2 years. DD got it when she started year 12 and wouldn't have had to apply for year 13 but they decided to stop it in June.

gingeroots · 18/02/2011 20:07

adamschic - it didn't stop in June .
My year13 DS applied just before Christmas and is getting it ,I'm presuming until he finishes school .
My understanding is that no further applications were accepted after January .

usualsuspect · 18/02/2011 20:09

It will be paid until the end of this academic year ..so yes it will stop in june/july

adamschic · 18/02/2011 22:24

Usual Suspect is correct, it's stopping this June coming when we thought DD would get it until end of year 13!

So ginge sorry to say but your Ds won't get it next year. Tbh it is confusing but afaik nobody will get EMA next academic year.

gingeroots · 19/02/2011 09:22

Oh that's ok - he's in his last year ,so wasn't expecting him to get it after this year !
confusion was over which June was being referred to !
and of course protests have already taken place ....

I didn't read it properly year 13's are OK on all counts.
