PTA- raffle tickets, advice needed

Our school has just (finally) set up a PTA. We would like to hold a raffle at the summer fayre but we understand that a licence is needed to do this.

We would like to send the children home with books of printed tickets to sell to friends and family. For this, do we need a charity number? All the proceeds will go to the PTA.

Any help on how we go about this woul dbe very much appreciated.
Many thanks.

You don;t need a charity number but you do need to be registered with your local council to run a draw. It costs us around £30 per year and we have to return a form to the council within 3 months of each draw. If you get in touch with the licensing department of your local council they will be able to give you more details. (I'm in Surrey, where it is dealt with by the borough rather than county council).

2nding Contact the licensing dept of your local council. Its not hard to ask what the legal situation is and comply with it.

You may find that what the prizes are will affect what kind of licence you need. Alcohol in a raffle is considered selling alcohol in my county.
