Does anybody elses school use the new way reading scheme .Just wondering how you can asses a childs reading age . Any bright ideas would be gratefully recieved Thanks .

Suggest you take a look on www.syntheticphonics.com - look at the Burt Reading Test link at the bottom of the home page. Hope this is what you are after.

Salfords is another reading test used in schools to work out reading ages

Thanks will go and have a look at that now .The new way reading thing is ok just wondered if he was on track for his age group so to speak .

I help in a Year 2 class, and they do use the new way reading scheme but mixed with another 2 scheme namely GINN and ORT so it might not be entirely relevant as they have an awful lot of books to go through compared to those who only use one...

but they normally start year 2 at about the blue level, and finish year 2 at the orange or thereabouts, I know there are no more new way in the junior reading scheme.
