failing children by trying to make square pegs fit into round holes come what may!!

Boys are being failed by the current system generally. No idea what the answer is and if I did I would be very rich. Massive problem in schools being addressed at govt level and below

Tortington · 08/10/2005 21:39

the answer is simple, more teachers smaller classes - a new approach to learning allowing teachers to be dynamic and enthusiastic.

a whole different paper pushing dept that deals with paperwork and sorts outs exams independantly

Agree with HellmouthCusty more teachers & smaller classes. In my dd's primary school they have a new head. At the top of the school (year 4/5 &6 - they have 40+ pupils per class. Not enough classrooms, so they have to split up and put half in the school hall!
He desparetly wants to build an extra classroom to help facilitate the learning of these children. The governors are blocking this request saying the school kitchen needs refurbishing!!!!!!!!!! It doesn't by the way!!!!!

What are we supposed to do ?????

Rowlers · 11/10/2005 12:31

I don't think we are.
Maybe I'm a lone voice but I have always believed that girls and boys develop at different rates and our insistence that boys and girls must achieve the same "standards" in the same areas at the same stages is absurd.
So maybe girls like to read and write more but boys prefer to do stuff.
It must all even out and if not, so what?
OK I'm going to run for cover now....

Gobbledispook · 11/10/2005 12:41

I hope not! I've got 3!

I know it's a whole other thread but I'm at least glad mine are learning to read by phonics rather than the other method. That's something imo.
