Homework to watch telly!

Hi
Having lots of "issues" with dd's teacher (recent thread on detentions for below 90% in tables and spellings).
Tonight's homework to be completed by tomorrow - watch 2 hours of TV, one for kids and one for adults, and note down any food adverts and what they are for. Dd(Y5) hasn't done it as Monday is netball and dancing, so was hardly keen to encourage 2 hours of TV starting at 7.30pm. Also not keen on them watching 2 hours of dross in one night anyway. Please reassure me I'm not mad.

when I first read the thread I thought "fair enough".

But then I realised you said tonights homework - for tomorrow! That is outrageous - we have the TV on all day, but I don't think I could get DS1 to sit down and watch that much TV on a weekday - not enough to actually make notes of any adverts.

Surely if they do want to give that type of homework it should be for over the weekend - when there's more chance to do it.

Or spread over the week - 1/2 today, 1/2 tomorrow type thing.

And what of those who don't have a tv??

Exactly. Dd has a friend with no TV - not deprived or anything and do have a big screen for DVDs but have made a lifestyle choice. As you say, over a weekend it wouldn't be so bad.
