Do i ask the school to write a letter home tp parents when/if Peter comes home with his machine?

Peter will have to come into the school playground to pick up dd1. I had a vision earlier of him surrounded by playign children and one tripping on his wires, and yanking the tubes in his side. do i contact the school when he comes home so they can inform parents of this, and to try and make sure the kids dont trip over the wires and tubes?

Hmm tricky one misdee- at a primary school i think it would be hard for the kids to remember anyway. If your picking up area is crowded I would ask for alternative arrangements (fro example when ds1 was at ms I was allowed to park in the staff car park- I used togo and collect him then, but I would have thought in your situation a classroom assistant could come to the car)). I think you could even ask the LEA for transport (although I suspect they;d avoid it).

transport may be the easy option. its all getting so complicated. he may be home in a month or 2 if things go well.

contact your lea soon- i bet you're a unique case so they'll get their knickers in a twist having no precedents!

misdee · 01/10/2005 20:31

that'll be fun. I am now not sure if he will fit in our car with machine etc, even tho its a small MPV, i think he'll need 2 seats due to the sizeof the VAD on his left side. which means we area seat short.

if lea are no good then SS- for direct payments to pay a childminder to do thepickup!

misdee · 01/10/2005 20:36

cheers jimjams, you are great gotta get SS to change his perch stools as well, they delivered ones with arms, cant be used with VAD in place.

now why dooesn't that surprise me (SS cocking up)

misdee · 01/10/2005 20:37

they arrived months ago before VAD was put in, so cant blame them really. We also need extra power sockets so we can plug him in and his charger as well for his batteries. did i tell you my husband runs on batteries

OMG- does he really have to be plugged in! I suppose he does!

misdee · 01/10/2005 20:40

Yes. the batteries only last an hour each, the machine has 2 in palce so when one dies the next one will kick in, plus we have to carry a fully charged spare as well. and when he is at home stanionary he will be plugged into the mains. its so surreal i'm telling you. the machine sounds like a very very loud clock. think i'm gonna mvoe into dd3 room when he comes home.

OMG-what a nightmare!

its tricky cos i bet you could do the pick up from staff carpark, but i bet Peter will want to go in the playground to get the kids and why shouldn't he, is there a quieter area in the playground, could you arrange to pick them up say 10 minutes earlier or later to avoid the rush, cant think of anything else.

misdee · 01/10/2005 21:23

i cant leave peter in the car unsupervised. i have to be in sight/hearing distance at all times. well, me his mum or dad. the person with him has to be LVAD trained, bacuse if the machine dies on us, then i have to use a handpump to keep his heart going and call for an ambulance to get him to harefield ASAP.

Sounds like you really need someone to bring the kids out to you. I don't know how you'd make sure the grounds were safe for Peter with lots of young children rushing around, excitedly.

tensing · 01/10/2005 21:49

It does sound like you need some help at school run time, either someone else to do school run or other arrangements such as staff door to pick up.

misdee · 01/10/2005 22:11

do you think its gonna be hard, i mean LVADs arent exactly common are they? lets see how much we have to fight with SS.
