When a teacher keeps talking about Deep and Surface when talking about childrens writing, what exactly is she referring to?

I understand that the writing is analysed for audiences, contents, structure, language, etc but Deep and Surface seem to be additional categories.

Thank you

In NZ education surface features are spelling, grammar and punctuation, deep are the vocab, story content etc.

Sorry if that is no help.

Yes thank you. The discussion was around punctuation so that makes sense!

Thanks Minx. Looks very deep and meaningful.

At least now I wont have to look ignorant if these are mentioned again!
