In that BBC maths test there was one bit which contained something like

-1
6

I remember doing this at school but I can't remember how to do it! Can anyone enlighten me? It's driving me crazy! TIA!

Sorry, it's meant to be a 6 with a little -1 over it, IYSWIM.

I cant even get the link to work!!!!!!! So cant even do the quiz!

It's the equivilent of 1/6 if it was -2 it would be 1/6*1/6 there fore 1/36

Does that help

emkana · 27/09/2005 22:25

I'm not sure if I'm making it clear - it would be written like 6 squared, only that there would be a -1 instead of a 2.

I'm not sure it's right - but that's how I remember it

clary · 27/09/2005 22:29

well I've learned something on here tonight.
Better go now, I' supposed to be working....

6 raised to the power 2 is 36

so 6 rised to the power -1 is 1/6
& 6 raised to the power -2 is 1/36

I think...

All these years of civil service and childminding have not destroyed my pack-rat brain.......now if only I could recall what my husband said to me before I got up this morning

Short term crap - long term good, but limited in use
