Transition work for secondary - Kent

Hi
Dd (only one from her primary at her secondary school) is rather miffed - everyone else has transition books of stuff they started in Y6 and brought on to Y7. I know one year it was Jacqueline Wilson and Michael Morpurgo. Anyone's children do transition work this year (before I raise yet another issue up at school)?

Thanks

We used to do it in my last school. The kids started a newspaper project in the last few weeks of primary and we carried on with the work in secondary. The kids hit the groun running so to speak and we didn't have the 'slump' that we normally get when kids first move up

I'm not aware that anyone at DS1's school has any transition work. As you may recall, DS1 was withdrawn from his primary school because of bullying, so it may be that transition work was done but that he missed out. However, his old headteacher provided some work for him to do prior to secondary and there was no ongoing work there.

Have you moved now, swedishmum? Which school is your dd attending?

Hi Freckle
Yes we're back and dd is at Highworth in Ashford. She reckons about 70% of her class did transition work but her school didn't. She went back after May half term but found primary school very difficult to fit back in - I suggested she could carry on at home but she wanted to finish where she'd started.
Hope your ds is happy at his new school. I'm really missing having the children around and have to bite my tongue about some of the stuff that goes on at school!

Just been to Ashford this morning - well, McArthur Glen if that counts! DS1 is loving his new school and is doing extremely well so far.

I wouldn't worry too much about DD not having any transition work. The secondary schools have to cater for all pupils and, if some primaries don't set transition work, they have to factor that in. I think that, for about the first 1/2 term, they go over much of what was done in Y6 and then move on. I'm sure DD will be fine, but she's probably just feeling a little isolated at the moment.
