UK schools fall in Global ranking

Just read this on BBC website:
www.bbc.co.uk/news/education-11929277 gist of it is "In maths, between 2000 and 2009 the UK has fallen from 8th to 28th and in science from 4th to 16th" . So what the politicians have said about standards in UK schools rising year on year does not correlate with this report. It has confirmed my belief that teaching in schools has significantly been dumb down and the most able children are not sufficiently challenged in the name of equality for all.

Not as many glaring problems as the OECD tests, I reckon, though ragged

I keep reading that maths gets easier, but my DC is doing stuff in Year 4 that I was doing in high school. I never touched serious algebra, graphs, data analysis, binary, etc until well into my teens and yet all this has been covered this year. DC basics knowledge is solid.
Maths is definitely more interesting than when I was at school. I also think that because the teaching is more practical, they retain it better.
