Very long story...will cut it short

I have beeen in dispute with a local education authority , other higher /legal powers got involved , over my child`s admmission
to a school(s) I preffered
child is currently not attending any school due to issues of bullying
as the situation developed I was advised to hold back on any further contact with education authority (particular dept)
but there is a huge support in my position

however I get a bog standard letter yesterday and called education dept as it was a tottaly different matter, whilst on the phone a advisor let it slip a place was pending for a decent school I had put down
and advised that the child was on waiting lists for others...does this mean my child will be offered the pending place first

the others where I was given waiting list numbers, i.e number 5 etc are not preffered schools, I suppse I`m just trying to clarify if a pending place means that will be the first place offered, advisor could not give any more info...any advice would help

if I understand your OP correctly there is a place pending at a school you want and your DC is also on the waiting list for other schools?

Basically a child can be on as many waiting lists as they/the parents want.

Waiting lists are ranked in order of the admissions criteria for the individual school.

When a place becomes available it will be offered to whichever child is first on the waiting list, it matters not whether they are only on that waiting list or a hundred others.

It's then up to the parents whether or not they take up the offer of the place (some parents choose not to move their child if they have since settled at the allocated school). If they don't take up the offer they are removed from the waiting list & the place is offered to the child in 2nd place & so on.

So whether or not you will get an offer for the pending place depends on where you are on the waiting list & what any parents/children above you decide to do.

How that helps - if I understood your question - if not please post again :)

If you are in catchment and you are number one on the list, the place will be yours...it does not matter how many lists a person is on...either way...if another child is also in catchment and they are number one...OR if they are in care...or if they have SN which can only be improved by attending the school...or if they have a sibling there...then they will get the place.
