fees - demonstrate on 10 Nov

Most of the current university sttudents are not affected by the increase in tuition fees and the removal of the cap. It is kids at school. I think we should all join the NUS demo on 10 November, and take out kids out of school to go too. Maybe if we can get enough people to demonstrate the proposals can be modified. I know it is not a very English thing to do, but this is really important.

Will there be a petition for those of us who have to work?

sue52 · 16/10/2010 23:34

Danamum It's a very English thing to do. Think of Watt Tyler and the peasants revolt.

EvilTwins · 16/10/2010 23:41

Did Wat Tyler not come to a very sticky end?

sue52 · 16/10/2010 23:44

Yeah, I think he was hung drawn and quartered, call me Dave wouldn't do that to us would he.

EvilTwins · 16/10/2010 23:47

He'd probably say that he wouldn't...

There isn't a petition, but you can lobby your MP. I just think that if there are a lot of people on the demo it might make the lib dem MPs think twice. I can't believe that they think it is alright to break a pledge.

I'm intending to go. Good idea about bringing children, though I must admit I'll have to think a bit about that!

animula · 17/10/2010 14:42

Thing is, though Danamum, the cut of 79% has to go, too. The two (tuition fees - HE finding cut) are a pincer-movement. I really hope that is being flagged up.

Higher education is being effectively privatised. And unless that cut is significantly reduced ... .

stoatsrevenge · 17/10/2010 18:46

Shame it's a Wednesday, because I certainly would have joined you.

I can see that the LibDems never expected to be in government, but that is not an excuse to break an election pledge. Even if they knew the pledge would never work, they drew in votes because of it. It's so deceitful.

It's made me really cross and disillusioned. Angry

Talker2010 · 17/10/2010 20:47

I hope that none of you have children in the 20th - 50th percentile of children

The only way to return to full or mainly funded university fees is to return to a much lower proportion of the countries youth going to university

I do not agree with the fee hike but know that we can not afford to fund 50% of the population in university education
