baseline tests..

My dd has just started reception and in her first week, the teacher has done a 'baseline test' on the pupils in the class. Anyone know what they are and what they mean etc. There are a few areas where my dd has scored zero.

My DS scored 0 for most of his

He is now 10 and in class 6

He scored 0 because he wouldn't speak to the teacher

She said she could see in his eyes that he knew the answer but because he wouldn't speak it he couldn't get any marks

Baseline tests are so that when they do the SATS in year 2 and 6 and maybe the voluntaryones inbetween they can have VALUE ADDED SCORES

in other words so they can see on a graph how well your DD has done

My DS has a very good graph as he has come on very well

Thanks, her maths was excellent but my dd wont speak up about what she knows either, so her phonics and alphabet were a bit low, its frustrating because she knows them! Her short term memory was zero and her concentration was v poor! So is mine tho!

Does anyone have links to examples of what kind of things they do in these baseline tests? ds won't be starting until next year, but as all his friends have just started, and we're in the process of applying for a place for him, so I'm kind of curious as to what's going to be going on when he does get to school.
