King's School, Peterborough

Hi all, this is my first post so this might not be the right place, apologies if it's not.

Does anyone know anything about the King's School, Peterborough, its entrance exams and how it compares to Grammar Schools in Lincs or Private schools in the Northants, Cambs and Lincs area?

I see from their website that they admit 10 children from a written exam and 3 from musical ability, with others entering from religious or brother/sister grounds.

We live in Peterborough and are thinking of places for our two girls, 7 and 8, so I realise we've still got a while to go but I thought we'd start trying to find out some more about the school if we could.

From talking to some of the parents at the primary school King's is held in high regard, however, I'm trying to find out if there is anyone else out there that has any info.

I tried a search on here but only found one post from a while ago and it didn't mention the 10 academic places or 3 musical places at all.

Thanks for reading,

Rgds

Dh says it was from a parent who attended the recent Oundle school open day.He was told there was very strong competition for places in the 6th form, particularly for girls.

Hi

Does anyone know how many places are allocated to other faiths at kings school peterborough plse?

Hi, we're also living in Peterborough at the moment and looking for a school for our sons. The only private schools that seem to have been mentioned here are Oundle and Stamford. Is there nothing else within an hour/hour and a half? Our first choice was Perse (due to the fantastic academic achievement and the nursery to upper school nature) but the traffic in Cambridge is so bad that we would have to move practically into Trumpington itself which is niether pleasant or affordable.

What we are looking for is a boys or coed school that offers IB and gets most of their students into Russell Gruop type universities (although american Ivy's are even better) but in relatively near to a reasonably affordable place to live (where you can get a four bed for less than 8000k) that is still commutable to London. Can anyone think of anything anywhere in the country?

I can well understand why you wouldn't send your sons to The Perse while you live in Peterborough. The journey 10 times a week would be horrendous.

Why don't you look at The Peterborough School (co-ed with new Sports hall and good results) or Oakham (co-ed and offers flexi-boarding). There's also Bourne Grammar, and I think, Spalding Grammar.

Stamford and Oundle also good schools, though Oundle is very expensive.

I live in Peterborough and my daughter goes to King's, which is excellent and ticks all your boxes but is hugely over-subscribed.

As for property, Peterborough is 45minute direct train to King's Cross, and areas like Broadway, Park Cres, Thorpe Road and Longthorpe, and Werrington are lovely. Some homes will cost around £800,000, but most will cost much less.

StrumpersPlunkett · 26/08/2015 15:29

Have you looked at Kings Ely?

Biscuitsneeded · 27/08/2015 10:29

Dina, look at The Peterborough School. Doesn't offer IB but ticks other boxes.

My two DC go/ went to Kings and have both enjoyed it and had a good experience there, have also made some lovely friends, and have found a good standard of teaching etc
I particularly like the new headteacher.

Regarding admissions you are better off attending church regularly ( any CofE or Methodist church is OK (other denominations and faiths significantly less favoured) slight extra points for the Cathedral! For 5+ years )

Only a few places are given through the test ( which is optional) or through music audition. Though I do know people who have been successful in both categories so it is possible, especially for a gifted child.

There is no real geographical criteria, and children travel from all over, surrounding villages etc.

Second child can gain a sibling place!

Hope that helps someone!

I am a key worker for our local community centre, we have no protection could Kings School donate us 2 visors so we have some protection. Thank you.

JugglingFromHereToThere · 29/05/2020 17:01

I know they have been making visors in the IT department clown
I would think if you contact the school someone would want to help with your small request.
Hope you soon have what you need
