Can someone suggest a Good area to live which is commutable to scunthorpe and also in commuting distance to other big cities nearby . I don't have any idea about the schools in this region _ please advice we are looking into private or grammer schools

Good grief. Lincolnshire doesn't really have "big cities" Smile but the school have probably moved on since I was growing up there 20+ years ago. FWIW I went to William Farr school but it's perhaps a bit too far away, it's a good school though. Caistor Grammar? Gainsborough Queen Elizabeth? Beverly (presence of a Minster usually means at least one posh school)?

Society is a bit limited in north Lincolnshire, it's sparsely populated and can be a bit rough and ready, but I would go for one of the market towns like Louth or Caistor, or near to where you find a good school. You will be heading to Nottingham or Sheffield for serious shopping though!

Welcome to the land of the Big Skies btw.

The schools have'nt moved on and those currently favourite with parents are William Farr, Caistor Grammer, Queen Elizabeth and LSST The Priory. (all with good results). I think there is also a popular Sleaford Girls. I have children at the Lincoln Minster and they love it. Buses are available to bring them in from all the surrounding villages. We have lived in Lincoln for the past 10 years having moved up from London. I love it, although Greenlotus is right you have to head to Sheffield or Nottingham for serious shopping. Its also only just over an hour back to London on the train from Newark.

Cities and Lincolnshire are two words rarely mentioned in the same sentence! The schools however are pretty good, the grammars around me( I'm South Lincolnshire so MILES from Scunthorpe-it's a very big county!) are selective but not super-selective ( top 25%) and there are plenty of private schools-my friends primary age children are at St Hughs in Woodhall Spa which is VERY nice!

The other thing is that Lincs is quite quick to get around as long as you aren't on the Road to Skegness in the summer, or stuck behind a tractor, so you can cover quite significant distances. Lincoln has OK shops for most things and is a great little "city", loads of character.

Well I know someone who used to work in Nottingham and lived in Scunthorpe and she commuted, hated it though and now works in Scunthorpe Hospital as the travelling was too much.

You could live somewhere like Bawtry which is a nice market town and half way between Scunny and Sheffield. Good private school in Doncaster, or it was 10 years ago - don't know anyone who has gone there recently. Its called St Mary's. Doncaster is close to Bawtry.
