Does anyone know what the status of the above is at the moment? Is it a european school until 2017 and then suddenly becoming an academy or is there a transition already in place i.e. e.u. withdrawing a class or two each year. What would be the position of category 1 pupils after 2017.

Just one other thing. Are there any health concerns re the line of electricity pylons nearby or even the power station at Didcot.
Probably no issues whatsoever, however do tend to fret. Would be grateful for any info.

If you read the website, then they are starting to withdraw Language sections already. I didn't know there was a European school in the UK - you can't get a place in one in Brussels for love nor money if you are non-EU employed. They are very crowded here too.

It says the EU will no longer fund it past 2017, so that will be why it goes to indy academy status.

Thanks scaryteacher,

It's just that I can't really tell from the website if the transformation to academy is certain or just aspirational. It says it will be 'setting course'. It also says that it will operate until 2017 unless a transformation to an Academy is possible before that date Is the academy in the bag and/or could it cease operating as a e.s. before that date? I wonder what the status of category 1 children would be if it changed? Would they have automatic admission like now?

The es Culham has hardly any children of eu personnel. It would have even less if you did not count the children of teaching staff.

I expect it depends on when the EU pulls the funding....

I'm a member of the parents' association of the European School and the current situation is that the school is being phased out as a Type I school between 2010-2017 (there is no Nursery 2 class this year). However, the negotiations to transform the entire school into an Academy for Languages and Sciences from 2011 are in an advanced phase. Definite decision expected in December. Category I pupils will have the right to join the school, with special dispensation from the Minister.

Thank you dominiquesmum,

If it becomes an Academy from 2011, will the nursery class return. Also will it still be doing the European Bac. and all the ancillaries the E.S. had (european hours etc).

Sorry to keep rambling on, but will Category 1 pupils who apply for entry AFTER 2011 (not existing ones) be automatically entitled to admission.

It looks like a really nice school!
