After a trial separation with DH, DC are now back with him. I completed the necessary forms (or so i think)for DC to return to school in the area (Yr3 & Yr9. Schools have now resumed yet the council are still telling us that they are waiting for the schools to get back to them and that we should give them a couple of weeks. DC are so upset with not being at school and I don't know what to do, does anyone know how these transfers work, please?

What you are doing is applying for your DC to be admitted outside the normal admissions round. The LA therefore needs to determine which schools have places available in the appropriate years. It takes a week or two for the schools to be certain what the position is. Every year schools find a number of pupils don't turn up because the parents have moved or gone private without bothering to tell the school. All you can do is keep chasing the council, I'm afraid.
