My oldest has come home from school (just started Y3) with a stage 11 ORT book. We didn`t do ORT in Y2 so I dont know what to make of it eg Stage 11 out of what? Do the levels go up or down? Ds is 7, is stage 11 good, average or poor?

Thanks to any Mnetter who takes the trouble to enlighten me.

They start at stage 1 and work upwards. I don't know what would be good for Y3 though.

The levels go up. If you look at the Oxford Reading Tree website it gives suggested age/year and term for each level. However these are only guidelines and there is still a lot of variation in ability, understanding and interest. ds got bored of these stories at level 11, having progressed in 2 yeasr form the beginning, and moved on to basic chapter books half way through the equivalent of Year 2.
