Anyone out there tried First Class Learning. Heard they are like Kumon but not repetitive at all. Also adhere to the National Curriculum. Unfortunately dont have a centre near me but happy to travel if I get a positive reponse from this thread. Thanks

Yes I'm a centre manager of FCL and it is very beneficial to your child/children. They do adhere to the national curriculum. It is taught in a modular fashion, this way the child doesn't get bored. First class learning is excellent value for money with a big subsidy for two subjects. If you have any more questions please ask.

Well that is an unbiased review for you! Don't know anything about them but wouldn't take the word of a centre manager, they are bound to think they are good.

I tried first class learning with my 2 when the local Kumon centre closed, but we gave it up 6 months later as we couldn't really see any progress. Our son was struggling with fractions at the time and because the FCL programme focuses more on curriculum based activities, they didn't really tackle the underlying issue that was his tables were not strong enough. We've gone back to Kumon now although we have to travel 20 miles to get to our nearest centre :(

Or you could just leave the poor little brats alone!

All these companies are just making money out of pareental insecurity. Don;t touch them wilt a barge pole.

I have 2 children. Both attend a first class learning
centre. My kids love it. It adheres to the national curriculum.
Centre managers great. I think it helps if the centre manager
Is a qualified teacher as they have more experience with
Children. I think its great to start early . It definitely gives them that
Confidence. My children have been there for 7 months and i can
See improvements! My daughters teacher asked if i was doing
Extra work because she can see her maths has improved.
The more you practice the better you will get and this improves confidence.

Hi. I sent my child to kumon which she found dull & repetitive. Went to kip McGrath but I found I got no feedback from centre and my child wanted to do everything on computers so got lazy with writing out in the traditional manner. Some one told me about Fcl. So tried that. We LOVE it, tutor identified her weaknesses and put her on a programme of work. After about 3-4 myhs I saw improvements. So far so good. Certainly cheaper than private tutors and my child looks forward to the weekly visit to the centre. Btw you do get a lot of work to do at home and I have to mark it do I know exactly what my child is doing or not doing well.

FCL is just a pale imitation of the Kumon programmes. My two children attended FCL for a while but went back to Kumon as it offers a far better structure and superior materials.

First Class Learning is great! I have been there for 5 years and it is amazing! I am now top of my half of the year at maths. I tried KipMcgraph for a few weeks but that led me to become worse at English since they gave me the minimum amount of work. I came back to FCL and now, in high school, I'm in set one for almost all my classes! They are also really friendly there and encouraging too! My dad recommended a few friends of ours there and they loved it too! I,d recommend it to most pupils! Smile

I will soon be launching my First Class Learning centre in Southampton. My son did Kumon for 2 years, before I knew about FCL. Kumon does not follow a national cirruclum and is very repetitive. FCL adopts the teaching methods and approaches that are presented in schools, therefore consolidating that learning. Also with FCL programmes children can cover more than one topic at the same time, which is more engaging for the child. It good great value for money.

I have been at my local Kumon for 5 years my son is ahead of his age for maths as I started him at a early age he was reading books at nursery at the age of 4 years. When he started year2 I wanted something that was in line with the national curriculum so I tried Kip McGarth for 3 months I thought it wasn’t helpful. Working on the computer is not something I would recommend esp not for £30 per session. I got a private tutor for a couple of months and now I am about to join FCL after hearing it is like Kumon but follows the national curriculum.

Kiddle · 02/12/2018 14:20

Hi....
Even i was thinking of joing FCL did your ds join.Any feedback.

Ema39 · 02/12/2018 14:52

Hi Kiddle
Yes he joined the English and Maths programme but do your homework and make sure the person that run that programme has knowledge of the British National Curriculum. They set homework everyday that can be completed in 10 minutes. It is very helpful broadens vocabulary and strengthens SPAG and Comprehension. Hope that helps

Ema39 · 02/12/2018 14:57

If your looking for a cheaper option though there are some really good books on the market. The reason I like my FCL Hannah the lady that runs it goes through the work with the child so they are getting one to one too and I don’t have to do much.

Kiddle · 09/12/2018 15:33

Thanks Ema39
