Moving home with a kid due to start reception

Hi All,

I am new to mumsnet, and need serious advice regarding the best time to move home with my kid due to start reception in Sept 2011.

we are living in the current house for past 6yrs now, and it has good schools in the catchment area. But we need a bigger house now, so need to move. Unfortunately, the houses I am getting do not have good schools around. My queries are:

1.If I apply for my child's reception in Sept 2010,from the present house, what is the earliest time I can move?

2.If I move anytime between his admission confirmation and the time he starts school, can I move keeping his school?

Any advice would be much appreciated. I am really anxious!

Many thanks!

You really need clarification from either the school or the Council. Some areas (including ours) are really cracking down on this. Fwiw here, if you move before your child starts, you would forfeit your place (and in some places, for 6 months afterwards).

Round here you will not hear if your child has got a school place until March/April but they can't take away your school place then. You need to check your own area. You also need to think about school friends, if you move will he have any friends that live near him.
