giving notice to a school? Best time?

We are moving DS1 out of his current independent school so that he and DS2 and DD1 can all go to the same school (didn't reckon on having a DD when we made the original choice of school!). We have no real issues with his current school but the logistics of having DS2 and DD1 at different schools is going to be a nightmare hence the move (as we want to move DS1 at a natural transition point as opposed to waiting until it becomes an issue).

When should we tell his current school? He has one more year to go there before we move him and technically we only need to give one terms notice....however, he will be going to an induction day at the new school in November and I don't want to lie about why I'm talking him out for the day....though at the same time, I am worried about the impact of telling the school so early (i.e. friends and teachers perhaps no longer making an effort with him?)...am I being paranoid? The school we are moving to IS a competitor, BUT it is purely a decision based upon logistics....

Remember indie school is a business, they will be pleased (esp if your year group is full) that they can start process for lining up next child.

Don't know what your school is like, but my expereince of indie schools are that there is an awful lot of parents who for whatever reason, only use a particular school for a short period of time (working in the area, gaining benefit for another school, run out of funds etc) that I've never known a child be penalised for leaving prior to expected.

Therefore tell them now, it'll make it easier for your ds, as he doesn't have to worry about what he says to friends for fear of being heard by a teacher.
