New pre-school or not?

My DS1 is nearly 4 and has been at a pre-school since he was around 2.5 years. At the time, he was madly keen on going and clearly enjoyed it. For the last 6 months or so he has been telling me that he doesn't enjoy it any longer and, having observed him playing there, it was clear to me that he wasn't enjoying it.

I've pulled him out and have found a place for him elsewhere and he'll start in September. Recently I've wondered if I should keep him at home for a year until he starts Reception in 2011. Would he miss out on anything? We have swimming lessons, meet friends etc.

Has anyone else done that? Everyone I know seems to use pre-schools or a nursery.

Love the name, llareggub!

He won't miss out on anything if you keep him home. There's a lovely thread about home pre-schooling on the Home Ed board at the moment.

Many people do not use pre-school or nursery and there is research evidence that young children have conversation of better quality at home.

Thanks, I'll have a look at that thread.
