How often do your kids get new coats?

I know a frivolous question. My DCs last year coat still fits her, however I'm bored of it but feel guilty a little to get a new one. Perhaps if I get it this year she still could wear it next year. She has a few coats for different weather, but this one is school coat she wears daily. How often do your dc get a new school coat?

I buy a new one when outgrown. My daughter has 2 coats (1 winter, 1 thin waterproof). The winter coat she has had since nursery and is now in year 1 and I think it should still last a year or 2 before she outgrows it.

I do tend to size up a bit when buying clothes, so they last a while!

now that dd has stopped growing, I do let her pick out new clothing items as her style matures. That includes items like coats. Otherwise she would be constrained to style choices she made when she was 11.

When they no longer fit/are falling apart. They have three proper coats each, one waterproof lighter jacket, one heavy winter parka and a smart coat/jacket. Dd (10) also has a leather biker jacket and a denim jacket that she wears in Spring and Autumn, ds (16) lives in hoodies when a coat isn't needed. I mainly buy on Vinted and resell or donate when possible.

DS, who is 7, has one light weight jacket, a thicker waterproof coat and a gilet which he wears to play golf.

Only replaced if too small or falling apart.

I've not bought my daughter a coat since she was in 6 months clothes. She is 3.5 now and has a mix of 18-24 and 2-3 coats. We have had a good run of hand-me-downs since then. They get replaced when she outgrows them or the season has changed and she doesn't fit into last year's. She is a 1st percentile child and since 1 she has got at least a year out of clothes and currently has t shirts that she has been wearing for nearly 2 years!

Only when they grow out of them / they're not fit for wearing any more.

Same!

Fairly regularly with the seasons. However I tend to buy on Vinted and pass them along when we are done. I have twins and one is shorter so can often squeeze an extra year out of something.

When my oldest grows out of his coat it gets passed down to my youngest then he passes it down to my nephew!

When they grow out of them. Older kids coats get passed down. Coats that are worn out or torn get mended, and will be used for home/garden/park rather than school if very scruffy. It hasn’t occurred to me that people could get bored with a coat!
