Just sold my undercounter fridge and freezer on ebay using the best offer thing.

He responded quickly to my counter offer and I accepted.

He's just emailed me saying he was hoping to have it collected this afternoon, but wants to pay via paypal - which he will give me AFTER he's seen the goods.

What does he think I am? An idiot???

Have emailed him back to say no taking them away before I have my money.

I can see I'm probably going to end up having relist them now........

claire they stopped the 1p refund thing, doesn't work anymore.

FAQinglovely · 15/07/2009 19:15

oh well she should be hear any time soon - she left home about an hour ago (and it's about an hours drive)

Everything about ebay is weird lol

Insisting sellers accept pp for collection only is one of the worst though it leaves them wide open to scammers.

FAQinglovely · 15/07/2009 19:17

I know that's why I've got the jitters now.

She's probably totally genuine and just preferred to pay via paypal than wander around with wads of cash - still doesn't make me feel any better.

Still if she is a scammer hopefully with a photo and her having signed a very well written up collection confirmation note (courtesy of DH) will put her off trying anything......

I should say that ebay was my last place of choice to try and sell the blinking things- tried the local free ads and shop ad things to no avail.

So ebay was last option - precisely as I was worried about this sort of thing happening (but hopefully the "something" is going to be nothing more than a bit of worry for me)

Oops, Sorry! Didn't realise, has been about 7-8mths since I've sold anything on Ebay.

Good Luck FAQ, hope it goes well!

FAQinglovely · 15/07/2009 19:21

thanks Claire

Here's hoping there'll be no "I knew it thread" from me about this transaction

well they've arrived, had no problem having the photo taken, or signing the "collection" form. DH is just helping them put them in the van..

Feeling more positive now they've actually turned up on time, and had absolutely no hesitations about my extra "security" before allowing them to take the goods.

Yay!!!

FAQinglovely · 15/07/2009 19:50

not going to celebrate just yet.......and lets just say I won't be spending the money straight away lol.

I'm sure it will be fine. I think ebay just does a very good job of convincing people to use PayPal for their own protection, even though the protection doesn't really work for collection items for either buyer or seller. 'Cash only' sounds dodgy somehow, even though it isn't.

NormaSknockers · 16/07/2009 11:41

I know it's waaaaaaaay to late now but the way I get around it if they refuse to pay cash is send them a receipt via recorded delivery. That way you have a signature & a tracking number.

Also buy yourself a UV pen, find an inconspicous corner on the item you're selling & write your postcode/name/eBay ID whatever. That way if they ever claim non-reciept one call to police & a UV light you can prove they have your item

TheChilliMooseisOnTheLoose · 16/07/2009 11:56

I'm sure it'll be fine. Assume that she is nice. She's probably been selling stuff on Ebay to buy herself a new fridge, hence wanting to pay using her paypal funds.
