Help! Have just sold my first item on ebay and there has been a query about it

I have just sold a boys boden fleece on ebay and I posted it out, all ok. However, I have now recd an email from the recipient saying that although the item is in good overall condition there is a small hole in the ollar which I had not mentioned. I am suprised becasue I had genuinly not noticed that there was a hole in the collar. I had washed it before selling so it was clean and in good order, but still did not notice the hole.
What, if anything, should I do? Or, what can I do?
This is all new to me.

You could offer a small refund, or you could ask her to send it back and give her a full refund.

I guess a small refund would be best. The item sold for £7 which is pretty good for a Boden fleece, though I know that is not the point. A £1??

You can indeed. Ask the buyer whether she would prefer a small refund or to return it to you.

Yes you can, did you ask how small was small? You could ask for a pic if you like, but at the end of the day the ball is really in the buyers court.

Prior to offering naything ask her what she feels is a fair recompense, however, can she prove it has a hole? You could ask her to send a piccie back of the hole as having checked prior to posting you was unaware of it (although she could have done it herself!!) other than that offer to accept the fleece back and give her a refund, you can then re post the fleece again.
I only say this as I a sceptical person who believes a lot of people are out the fleece others (no pun intended). I once sold some cot bedding on ebay which I knew was in perfect condition as I had never used them but discarded the packaging and lost recepit and they were not the right colour for the rrom. I sold them on ebay and buyer said they had slight discolourings on them and had not been washed as they could smell the baby on them. This was a lie as never been used as my baby had not been born. I told them this and never heard from them again.

She said it was very small on the seam near the collar and that it could be sewn up. TBH it must be pretty small if I missed it entirely, really don't want bad feeling over it when it was a genuine mistake on my part. I will see what she prefers to do.

It's not always like this - I have sold loads of stuff and bought from there with no problems at all. You could offer her the p&p cost back I suppose.

That's an idea, I will contact her and suggest the options. I would prefer to offer a small refund cos part of the reason for doing this was to clear house of stuff, I don't really want it all back!

As the buyer bothered to contact you - she must have some thoughts as to what she wanted you to do - did she tell you - also was it a pleasant email and does the buyer have lots of good ratings to give you a comfort feeling.

No, she made no mention of what she would be happy with, which I did think was a bit strange, thought she might have mentioned a partial refund if that was what she wanted.
E-mail was pleasant, and not at all confrontational. I haven't checked her rating, but will have a quick look.
