Am thinking of opening an Ebay Shop. Have just looked on Ebay and see that you still pay (reduced) instertion and final value fees as well as a monthly fee.

I wondered if anyone has an Ebay Shop and found it to be successful/worth having or if there are better ways of selling items.

Basically any advice of the subject would be much appreciated.

Thanks

I had a shop at one stage but found it was costing me more so closed it.

Tbh the only reason I opened one was to have the 30 day BIN listings & now you can get those without having a shop!

Thats useful info MrsMagooo, I didn't know you could have 30 day BIN listings - I'll probably try selling "normally" without a shop then.

You have to register as a business to open a shop even if you are a personal seller. That means you have to comply with distance selling regs and all the bumph the goes with being a business. You do get reduced fees, and you can list something forever (goodtillcancelled) which I guess can be useful - although you have to wonder if it hasn't sold in 30 days is it ever going to?!? I look at doing it myself but was put of by the high monthly cost of having a shop. I'm just using the 30 day BIN option at the moment.

If you are going to be listing a lot each month then it could work out cheaper. Try to estimate how much you will list and work out costs of shop v no shop. (there's a point eg 200 items where it starts to turn to be better to have a shop)
You don't need to be a business seller to have a basic shop.

I didn't have to register as a business to open a shop

I opened my Ebay shop again in September - just before the fees rocketed . I would only recommend it if you have a lot to sell, it does cost a lot still, 20p per different item to list yet if you have 10 items the same it still costs 20p which is annoying as I sell clothes which are different sizes. . Final value fees are 9%, then you have paypal fees and the monthly shop fee.
What were you looking at selling?

Some really good advice - thanks all. I was thinking of selling accessories for dolls houses which my aunt makes. Can't see me selling 200 items a month tbh.

think the 30 day bin listing would be best to start with. If I had say 50 of an item I could just do one listing couldn't I?
