i have had emails from 'ebay' and 'paypal' before saying the same things. just a dodgy one in my case trying to get personal details. i also sometimes get them from banks i dont even bank with lol! the do look very convincing. i would wager a bet its a scam. dont reply to it is my advice and just delete

babyjjbaby · 23/06/2008 11:31

hmmm, well i suppose it depends if you have lots of really good feedback you want to keep

charliecat · 23/06/2008 13:56

Did you click on the link on the email? Someone else will now have your password as you have gave it to them! Whats your ebay name?

bossybritches · 23/06/2008 13:57

DON'T click any links or respond. Probaly a spoof (I'm forever getting them) if you go to the messages box on your "My Ebay" page -the one you use to keep an eye on things & see if you've been paid etc-if its genuine it'll be in there.

ShortandSweet · 23/06/2008 16:46

That happened me once were I received an email from a buyer but I hadn't bought anything, so I clicked on the link and added my ID with password but nothing happened and I left it.

Ebay sent me an email telling me the exact same as you. I then changed my ID and password and didn't have any other problems.

babyjjbaby · 23/06/2008 20:35

oh right thanks then if it is a scam they will have bout 3 new passwords but i have got 3 alerts on my ebay account should i close it down and just start again

go to the ebay help section, you can join a queue and speak with someone online who will advise you. Thsi happened to me a few weeks ago, my email account is now obsolete (everything is in chinese) and my ebay account had been used by soemone else to list electrical items. I have salvaged the ebay account now tho'; the ebay folk will help you and explain what to do, good luck

Washersaurus · 23/06/2008 20:46

Pippo, I had exactly the same thing with the chinese hijacked email account - they were listing fake handbags (darn ugly they were too)

babyjjbaby · 23/06/2008 20:47

ok thanks i will try that agin i tried 3 times but noone answered me after bout 20 mins

Yes - also had the spoof PayPal one. Luckily I checked the paypal login page before changing anything, so I didn't fall for it.

SNoraWotzThat · 23/06/2008 20:53

Never reply/respond to an email that says it is from ebay or paypal. Never use a link from an email to reconfirm or put in your password.

If ebay want to get in touch they will leave a message or an alert on your ebay account.

babyjjbaby · 23/06/2008 21:00

right ok i am going to close it down and lose my 117 feedback how do i do it and if it is a scam will they be able to get my new account

OP posts:
Washersaurus · 23/06/2008 21:08

I wouldn't close it there is no need honestly - just try and get hold of someone on the live help thing - it usually is quicker later on in the day. They will change all your account details for you and you can even re-register with a different email account.

babyjjbaby · 23/06/2008 22:27

all sorted now the live help was fab and i din't have to wait misse dthe carrycot matrress what i wanted to buy tho

Washersaurus · 23/06/2008 22:30

Make sure all your email/paypal/ebay passwords are different - I think that was where I went wrong

I NEVER clicked on any phishing email link though so I don't know how they got into my email AND ebay accounts!

babyjjbaby · 23/06/2008 22:42

wil deffo have the password differant now lol i hope i can remeber them
