Any Burrberry experts? Genuine or fake.

My friend asked me to sell a burberry for her but I'm pretty sure it's fake but she says its not.
I know zero about Burberry and Google info isn't helping. I'll put pics up in a minute. I'm not listing it unless it's genuine.

If say obvious fake, because the brand is Burberry, not Burberrys.

DriverSurpriseMe · 16/09/2015 15:04

Well I stand corrected.

Yes it used to be Burberrys I did look that bit up Grin (And now I see I misspelled it in title!)

I'd be a bit disappointed if it were real as they haven't bothered to line up the check in the fabric properly. The red line should match on the main body and the flap of the purse and there shouldn't be a slight cream line on the right hand side.

But maybe Burberry don't bother with those sorts of details now (they should).

Tortoise · 16/09/2015 15:15

Oh yes it is slightly out of line. So I'm probably right then, it's fake.

The thing is, if you are not sure a buyer may not be either. Personally my first eBay rule is 'never sell on behalf of anyone else' because sods law will always have it going wrong.

Perhaps gently suggest to your friend that you could help her set up her own account and she could have a clear out of her own stuff?

I have a genuine Burberry purse (bought at Harvey Nicholls by me) and the metal work says "Burberry". The lining, where there is material, is woven through with BURBERRY all in capital letters, it doesn't say Burberrys of London anywhere. I can't remember what the box looked like as it was bought a few years ago. Mine isn't the tartan either.

Whilst doing a quick google for "how to spot a fake burberry" I found this site which says that genuine Burberrys do not have a frame around the label.

I wouldn't sell it if she doesn't have proof that it's genuine, because even if it is, she can't prove it if a buyer says it isn't - and eBay may well then refund them, advise them to destroy it (illegal to send fakes in the post) and then they've got the bag and the cash.

Proof of purchase/certificate of authenticity/letter from Burberry - go for it. Just her word - no way.

Thank you. I'll give it back and let them decide what to do with it. I won't risk my account.
