BIN how long until contact should a seller wait...

Sold my car finally on BIN. Sent the buyer a quick message to say congrats and that I'm free all weekend if they want to collect asap. Not heard a thing but it's only a day so that's fine as they will need to organise collection of the vehicle as it doesn't have an MOT.
I was just wondering how long sellers wait though and what's the protocol for this kind of thing?
I thought it was a bit strange that they didn't reply to say 'thanks I'll let you know when I've made arrangements to collect and yes cash on collection is fine' it's what I always do. I'm just worried they will dick me about I suppose and I need this car gone asap so I can get a normal car and actually be able to go out again before I go mad haha Grin

you can open an unpaid case within 48 hours

yeOldeTrout · 12/09/2015 07:56

Ebay sends them reminder msgs, too.
Would OP be forced to take Paypal if she opens a case? How do folk usually pay for cars?

TeamScoutRifle · 12/09/2015 08:09

Best for sellers is cash on collection which is what I've done before when selling a car. This was a few years ago but I clearly remember the buyer getting in contact straight after the auction ended.
It's a really nice car and very cheap too only been on eBay a few days, loads of interest in it and what with it being the weekend an ideal time to collect as the week is always awkward because of work patterns. I personally would be itching to collect it and would have arranged a trailer to collect today. I would have at least made contact/reply to any messages to give a time scale/reassure I still want it. please don't let this be a time waster, I've checked their feedback and it says prompt buyer/quick payer/great comms. I'm not getting that vibe here Confused

no you won't be forced to take paypal for a car - it offers nobody any protection.

Pull their details and give them a ring?

And a buyers feedback will always be good so that doesn't really show you anything

No OPnwould not be forced to take PayPal if she opens a case. (Needs to wait three days for this).

A bit early to start to panic just now, but I do find a lot of people go incommunicado after agreeing to buy a car. Often they don't realise the location and after they click BIN, they discover how far away it is.

Did you put on your listing when you require collection by?

I'd give them 24 hours and if you haven't heard from them send another message. If another 24 hours go by and still no word, open a case.

TeamScoutRifle · 12/09/2015 08:41

Oh I knew there was something I forgot to put on the ad..well 2 things actually.

  1. I normally put the location in the description when I'm selling collection only stuff because general area is not very helpful when the area is huge.
  2. When I need it gone by. I haven't sold anything for awhile, last thing was a fish tank and I needed that gone pretty sharpish and the guy was round to collect the next day. I will wait 24hours and make contact again and will pull their details and get their number so next contact will be by phone. Thank you all Smile

But if OP opens a case, does the buyer have the right to pay by paypal like they do with all other Ebay goods?
If OP files NPB, buyer pays up by paypal, OP refunds & insists on cash, can buyer then file not received or otherwise report seller for breaking Ebay rules?

I'm just trying to see what the possible pitfalls are when filing a case & selling a car.

19lottie82 · 12/09/2015 09:27

Ah, see I usually put at the top of my description, can is in xxxxxxx, if you can't collect please don't bid as I can't deliver. Common sense would tell you, as a buyer, to check the location, but you'd be surprise at the number of ebayers who lack common sense!

19lottie82 · 12/09/2015 09:28

Rather than storming in with a non payment case it would prob be wise to ask they buyer if they still want the car / would like to cancel? This moves things along a bit quicker so you can relist.

It's important not to re list until the sale has been officially cancelled. You don't want a defect for having two buyers and only one car!

TeamScoutRifle · 12/09/2015 09:37

I will ring the lady later & ask her if she still wants it as I've now got her number.
I have actually read the description and I did put the location in it lol. I swear I would forget my head if it wasn't screwed on hehe. I didn't say I wanted it gone quick though unfortunately but I did say I was needing to get a replacement car quick but that's not the same thing really.
Fingers crossed she still wants it as the car I want finishes on Monday Sad and I need the cash.

I won't need to relist hopefully as I have 3 potential buyers lined up if she doesn't want it.

no because paypal is never used for cars.

There are certain items that the policy does not include such as services; intangible goods, and items listed in categories such as Vehicles (including, motor vehicles, motorcycles, caravans, aircraft and boats); Gift Certificates; and Residential Property.

19lottie82 · 12/09/2015 12:34

The listing should have a section which automatically tells buyers where the car is located, but as I said, a big chunk of them lack the common sense to facilitate this!

TeamScoutRifle · 12/09/2015 12:53

Well I've rung & text the buyer and no one is answering Sad

When did buyer click on the BIN?

TeamScoutRifle · 12/09/2015 14:51

Yesterday which I know is still early days (over 24hrs now) . Just seems odd that they've not contacted me at all to even answer my questions.
I shall just have to be patient and wait, thankfully I have other buyers on standby.
