Impatient seller - or is it me?

soaccidentprone · 05/06/2014 22:44

I bid for an item on Tuesday afternoon for an item which finished on Tuesday evening (so 48 hours ago).

The seller messaged me this evening asking when I was going to pay. 30 minutes later the seller opened an unpaid item case against me. It did not state on the advert a timescale for payment.

Is it me, or is the seller being a little hasty about this?

I had, and have every intention of paying, but I have never had an unpaid case opened before!

I'm just amazed at how impatient the seller is.

yabvu. time-wasting bidders are a top complaint among Ebayers.
Apologise, pay up & move on.

IAmABam · 05/06/2014 22:58

Why haven't you paid for it? Confused
You've bought their item, they deserve to be either paid for it or given the chance to offer it to someone else who is willing to pay them.
It's not impatience on the part if the seller, it's a lack of courtesy on your part.

Coughle · 05/06/2014 22:59

You could have paid for it in the time it took to pay here.

How long did you think the seller should wait for you to deign to pay?

You know the auction ended, you know you won, you know you owe the money. What are you waiting for?

Butterflyspring · 06/06/2014 08:26

it is normal for sellers to open an unpaid case within 48 hours - you have another 4 days to pay after.

Why haven't you paid though? The seller is not being impatient at all.

whereisshe · 06/06/2014 08:27

A 48 hours timeframe to pay is quite normal. You're being slow to pay.

Snowflakepie · 06/06/2014 09:36

As a seller you can open an unpaid case after 48 hours. I always do, because then after 4 days I can relist or offer to the next bidder if I choose. It's not about being impatient, it's about not being messed around and wanting to get rid of my stuff, frankly!

If you have an issue with payment then say so, I have let things go longer if someone has explained a situation to me, but if you bid, you need to pay. Why haven't you? The longer you leave it, the longer before you receive the item. Just pay up and move on.

casparthecat · 06/06/2014 09:49

You're being slow. You've got time to post on Mumsnet though...

I would email after 48 hours too but open a case 48 hours after that.

Shonajay · 06/06/2014 22:07

YABU. I state on my auctions payment within 24 hours as I tend to list in batches and go to the post office with all items at once. I don't understand why you'd wait two days before paying.

rockybalboa · 06/06/2014 22:08

I'd be cross if the auction ended on Tues and you still hadn't paid by Fri. Just bloody pay up! Yes, YABU by the way.

soaccidentprone · 07/06/2014 15:15

Well it's a good job I posted this in eBay rather than AIBU?

thank you for you feedback

So why didn't you pay up?

And have you paid now?

HecatePropylaea · 07/06/2014 15:33

But what WERE you waiting for?
not having a go, just curious.
etiquette is to pay promptly, not days later. And if there was a hiccup, then it would be polite to contact the seller same day and say something along the lines of great, glad I won this, willdo paypal tomorrow ...
No payment and no contact isnt what people normally expect.

rockybalboa · 07/06/2014 22:42

Sorry, I'll rephrase that then. "yes, it IS just you". Have you paid up yet?

itiswhatitiswhatitis · 07/06/2014 22:45

Why on earth wouldn't you just pay as soon as possible. Hate time wasting buyers.

gamerchick · 07/06/2014 22:46

So why havent you paid yet, what are you waiting for?

FloozeyLoozey · 07/06/2014 22:49

You do have 7 days to pay, to all the people berating the op.

Butterflyspring · 07/06/2014 23:02

6 days not 7.

Snowflakepie · 07/06/2014 23:32

Indeed, you have 6 days. But eBay allow a seller to open an unpaid case after 48 hours. So I do, because letting it go on forever is a pain when you have to post the items and in my case, that requires a special trip as I try to time things where it's convenient around the kids, and someone not paying within a few days may mean an extra trip, which is a complete nightmare with the posse in tow. At least if a case is opened, it can then be resold earlier, and it doesn't hang on for weeks. If there is an issue with PayPal, or with not having the money for a few days, then if I know it's fine. A quick message explaining does wonders. But there is nothing that annoys me more than someone bidding, winning and not paying. Why do it? Basic courtesy costs nothing, and if you can't afford it then don't go there.

I hope you've now paid op. I just don't get why people don't pay up, if you don't want the item just say so. Much quicker for all involved, and no black marks against you.

Butterflyspring · 07/06/2014 23:36

I agree - I always open in 48 hours - no point hanging around.

BumWad · 07/06/2014 23:37

It is most definitely you

sanfairyanne · 07/06/2014 23:38

it's you

balenciaga · 07/06/2014 23:43
