Buyer says item is dirty

although I washed and ironed it before posting and I am pretty meticulous. New buyer ( two transactions- don't know if that makes a difference). I responded by saying I was very surprised and I only sell in mint condition (to avoid this pita) and also to offer a refund. What happens now? Do I open a dispute? Who pays for the return (I am pretty sure she won't want to return it as it was a bargain). Help!

tell them to return for a refund - they open the dispute. Nothing else you can do really. buyer pays to return, but if item is faulty/damaged a good seller will give return costs too. You would have to refund everything they paid you.

Poor you what a horrible start on e-bay for you,you will have to accept the item back if your buyer insists on refund but don't you refund until you receive the parcel back signed for delivery, some buyers are very swift at picking up you are new and will try anything on but stick to your guns and don't refund until item returned. Its a mindfield e-bay sometimes and takes abit of time to get used to the procedure but once you have mastered it it will be easier for you.

It's the buyer who's new on ebay, perhaps pinkhousesarebest has been around longer.

As others have said, the buyer pays to send the item back to you. Therefore, I'd respond, very politely, saying that if the item is dirty you are willing to provide a refund of all they originally paid once they've paid for it to be sent back to you. Tell them you'll refund once you've received the item and confirmed it's in the same state as it was when you sent it out.

If they're arsey they might open a case against you but the outcome would most likely be what's outlined in the previous paragraph only with more faffing.

Thank you all so much. Yes, the buyer is new but I am a relative old timer- but the first time I have had a complaint. It is annoying isn't it- have to stop being so sensitive!
