I expect my item went to the other person.

Have emailed the seller. I don't want to have to pay for postage as it is not an "item not as described" issue.

So before seller comes back to me, should they offer to pay for return postage (and full refund inc postage), or at least pay for postage and I'll send item to other person as long as they do the same.

That happened to me. Seller paid us both to post items to each other signed for. No problem. Just had to go to post office, but seller was lovely and these things happen.

Was the item sent to you tracked? If not, then if the seller doesn't cooperate in a very helpful manner I'd think about opening an Item Not Received case.

Think carefully before making an arrangement to send the item directly to the other buyer (assuming there is one) because this can result in the other buyer not sending you your item and you having neither an item nor your money.

Seller has messaged back and said they would pay if I could post to other person.

It was signed for delivery, and will send it the same. Will request money first though.

So annoyed with it all as I needed the item before next week.

There was a thread like this a couple of weeks ago and the person who received the mumsnetters item refused to send it, so kept it as 'unsolicited goods'. Maybe it's best to send yours back to the seller, then the seller can send the items back to the right people?

What value is the item?

I THINK...

I have read on the EBay forum that you should raise a case with eBay and, if requested, send the item back to the seller registered address as an item not described. You should get a tracking number.

Sending the item directly to the other person should work out ok if everyone is honest and as long as nothing goes missing. I wouldn't take the chance personally.

You could have a look on the EBay community boards and post the question to them if you want to be sure of the facts as I am not 100% sure about mine. but I'm quite sure

Don't open an INR - item not received case because the seller may have tracking proof that he sent you the wrong item. It needs to be a SNAD - significantly not as described case.
