Just that
I bought an item, seller noticed it was marked when she packed it and offered a refund of cost but not postage
I am happy with that but she wants me to txt my email to her for refund
I did point out that I understood you could refund via PayPal without email
If I txt she will have my mobile number and email
I am sure she is genuine but not sure I want to disclose email and phone no. for the sake of 3

yes - the only and correct way to refund is for her to log into paypal, click on your payment, scroll down and hit refund.

She will already have your email address anyway from paypal. If she is asking for your email then she wants to send it as a payment which is the incorrect way of doing it.

She should have your email address from the notification email that paypal sounds out, she doesn't need to ask you for it again.

Also, she can go to her paypal account & issue a refund of any size to you. Still doesn't need to ask you for your email to refund.

Are you normally quite careful about who has your mobile phone no.?

ps: point out to the seller that part of the paypal fees get refunded if she refunds you formally thru paypal; whereas if she sends you a direct payment she'll be more out of pocket at the end of this sale. Odds are the difference is pennies, but pennies add up, etc.

I am not normally so cautious but wondered if there were any risk involved

if she sends the refund as a payment you can be charged fees, and she can claw it back at a later date if she wants to.

Tell her to refund you via your original payment which is the correct way. Why is she asking you to text anyway - surely she can use ebay messages?

roadwalker · 29/04/2014 19:39

ebay messages dont work if you include an email

but she doesn't need the email address to refund does she.

There is better buyer & seller protection for both if done thru Paypal. Just politely insist to seller that she can do that & please do it soon.

HolidayCriminal · 29/04/2014 19:48

sorry.. meant to say safer if done as part of the original transaction on paypal, not done another way on paypal.

Why is she not refunding postage also? If she has noticed something wrong with item while packing surely she did not post it so she should do a full refund I think, she does not need anymore information, should do it through paypal.

roadwalker · 29/04/2014 21:27

She did post it and put a note in saying she would refund the cost
I suppose she really should have contacted me first to see if I still wanted it
I have messaged her about refunding properly, thanks for the advice
