Advice needed...would this be foolish or a good idea ?

Selling dds broken moto g phone (idiot knocked it off the side and smashed the screen).

Listed it on eBay to get a few £ to go towards a replacent ( they are only about £110 new).

Listed as "for parts or not working" with photos of broken screen turned on and off showing smashed only partially lit screen...

It's got bid up to £31! ( and still has a day or so to go)

I'm minded to email the highest bidder saying " you do realise it's smashed and does not work don't you?" As this seems silly money to me and I just don't want the hassle of a chargeback etc because they didn't read the listing!

Nope. You've stated it quite clearly. They probably want the parts and if they didn't read it properly it's not your problem. They might know how to replace the screen and make it work. Then they might sell it for a lot more than they paid you so don't feel guilty!

make sure you send with online proof of delivery - and you can check with the winning bidder they are clear on the state of it before you dispatch it to be sure.

DS dopped his nexus and cracked the screen so it didn't work properly. Poor thing he was gutted as he had saved to buy it himself. DH bought new screen, replaced it and it now works perfectly and is as good as new. I think some people do buy broken phones and mend them to sell on. Saying that, we tried to buy DD a refurbished iphone but had to return, they sent a replacement but still no good so we got a refund.

If you have described the phone as cracked or broken then you have done everything right and it is up to the buyer to check.

For anyone selling a mobile, I'd suggest taking a note of the IMEI code. There are people out there who buy working but damaged mobiles and return completely non-working different mobiles. There are various ways to access the IMEI code but the appropriate one depends on the phone model.
