Ebay seller trying to change postage.

I know there have been one or two similar threads to this recently, but was wondering if any ebay sellers had any advice for this situation. On Monday I bought an item (Buy It Now) for £35, and postage was listed as free. There was a revision in the listing relating to postage that I noticed before I bought it but I thought nothing of it.

So I paid for the item immediately through PayPal, and then the next day received an email from the seller saying that they had made a mistake, and postage was actually £25, so either pay up or 'cancel' the purchase and my money would be refunded. I emailed back and said I was very disappointed, but I understand that mistakes can happen, so I'll pay half postage as a gesture of good will. They have since emailed back and the message just says 'give me your bank details and I will refund your money' which I think is odd, surely I don't need to give bank details when they have my PayPal details? I've said as much in an email on Wednesday, but I have heard nothing else, and no refund has been given as yet.

Am I being paranoid, or is this weird?

no way - do not pay a penny extra, meeting them halfway is totally unneccessary, it is their mistake and not your problem, and they have no need for your bank details whatsover - they just click on the payment in paypal and scroll down and refund

I hope you leave appropriate feedback and stars.

(you can open a case with paypal now btw- not received then escalate straight away).

I would do a fergoose mentions as open a case with ebay and paypal. Don't give out your bank details they can refund you via paypal.

Complain to ebay about the seller as well. Hope you get it sorted out soon !

Look at sellers feedback and what the feedback is for and what else they are selling ...
(I've been conned on ebay - but got my money back though paypal ...seller had sold about 50 things, all positive feedback. I bought a DVD set for £20 'unopened gift' - it was cheap but not that cheap ...it didn't arrive, I chased it for a week or so and then the negative feedback started -all from people who had bought DVD sets for about £20...then realised that the 50 sales were books, bric-a-brac etc - all for a couple of quid then a couple of second hand DVDs, and a couple of box sets -all fine - then the scam...from negative feedback they had 'sold' at least 150 at £20...walked off with £3k -and the police said as far as ebay/paypal are concerned it is small fry and nothing will be done to stop them doing it again...)

Don't give them your bank details

Send them another e-mail asking for your refund to paypal or you will be reporting them to ebay

And do that if they haven't got back to you by tomorrow...

you will need to open the case with paypal not ebay - you can open a paypal case straight away, you can't in ebay.

Definitely no need at all for the seller to have your bank details. In the unlikely event that there is a problem with their PayPal account & they are unable to refund you themselves that way at the moment, you can still get your money back through PayPal/eBay.

I would also leave suitable feedback to warn others. Maybe if they had simply omitted the P&P cost you could have written it off as an honest mistake - but asking for your bank account details just stinks of fraud TBH.

Ooh, sorry everyone, I forgot to update after all of your great advice. I sent a message to the seller just after reading most of your replies and said either refund to PayPal by this evening or I'll have to raise a case with PayPal. THEN I got another message saying "send me your bank details and I'll send your money" which I didn't see until hours after, and therefore didn't reply.... They eventually refunded the money to PayPal without another word exchanged at 12:06am the following morning Hmm ...the cynical side of me couldn't help thinking that leaving it till just into the early hours of the following morning, despite me stipulating that I wanted the money that evening, was perhaps a little passive aggressive oneupmanship on their part, but that could just be me over thinking things Grin
I did also leave feedback warning others to take care with this seller.
