How to protect yourself when you are selling something expensive on ebay?

A friend wants me to sell several practically new designer handbags on ebay for her. Happy to do so but I don't want any post sale rubbish off buyers that we all know happens even when items are brand new and perfect. Any idea what I can do about this? Is there anyway to stop someone buying if they do not have say 99% feedback or say at least 50 feedback score. I am thinking that the only safe way is to insist on cash (which I don't think you can do - I think you have to give paypal option) or insist on collection (and therefore cash) only. Any suggestions? Thanks.

cash on collection is an option, you should never take paypal for a collected item anyway

If posting send by courier or special delivery - this will stop you from buyers pretending not to receive

write in your auctions all items are security marked to hopefully prevent fraudsters sending back a different item

but to be honest if I were you I would tell your friend to set up her own account and sell herself - if it all goes wrong it is you and your account who will suffer, not her.

Depending on where you live Gumtree may be worthwhile, plus it is free. I would diret her there. But again it would always have to be cash on collection.

I heard recently about www.Vestiairecollective.com which allows people to come together to buy and sell designer fashion items. Apparently everything goes through their offices, so you post your item on their website, it sells, you send it to Vestiaire who check it for authenticy before repacking it and forwarding it on the the buyer.

It sounds like it offers a better protection than ebay - but I've not used it myself so I don't know how smoothly it works or if it is very expensive to use. Might be worth looking into though.

You can allow only buyers with a certain feedback score - I forget exactly how but it's under 'buyer requirements'.
