Should I sell on Ebay, or elsewhere?

I have finally decided to get rid of loads of clothes and accessories that I no longer wear. There is rather a lot of it. Blush

I keep hearing the scare stories about people not paying, pretending not to recieve items etc etc.

Is it ok more often than not, or should I try and find other places to sell my items?

Hello cake, I am new also, I only just joined ebay (and paypal).

I have decided to list a modest mix of stuff - a few DVDs, clothes, games, shoes - and see what sells; and see what if anything attracts trouble; and just to get the feel of the place.

I get the feeling that clothes will be the worst. :(

If they don't fit, the person might make trouble to get a refund.

I know what you mean!

I just measure everything, and stress that used means used 'as reflected in the low [starting] price'.

cakeismysaviour · 04/07/2012 20:32

Oh hell, you have to give measurements?!

I was thinking that 'Size 8 Topshop skirt' etc would be fine!

I am erring on the size of caution!

LineRunner · 04/07/2012 21:20

That was a typo btw not the world's worst pun Grin

Grin

Thats probably the best way!

I am scared that I will be scammed by evil clothes-stealing buyers.

Might have to start by listing a few (fashion) bracelets and see how I get on, before putting my lovely dresses on there.

Have you sold anything yet, Line?

Yes, a DVD - and that all went well, so I learned how it all works.

The clothes are still on there - it's weird seeing some nice stuff at 99p!

PoppyWearer · 04/07/2012 21:32

I was selling until a few weeks back and, honestly, you are better off waiting until after September. It's really quiet at the moment.

PoppyWearer · 04/07/2012 21:33

Sorry, I meant until September, after the summer.

LineRunner · 04/07/2012 21:34

It is quiet, I think.

cakeismysaviour · 04/07/2012 21:42

Glad it all went well, Line. :)

I think I will start with small items and hopefully I will be able to figure it out and build a decent reputation on there. It just seems so complicated!

I might actually begin my foray into ebay as a buyer, because I need a camera to take decent pictures of my items!

Thanks for the advice, Poppy. Does it normally get better in the autumn? I have quite a lot of summery stuff (sandels, summer dresses, shorts etc). Would I be better off selling that during the summer?

Give the summer stuff a whirl now, but yes, it definitely gets busier in September and the run up to Christmas.

There have been a few "why is eBay so quiet?" threads recently, fwiw.

cakeismysaviour · 04/07/2012 21:59

Thanks. :)

I will see if I can shift a few summer things late this month or next month.

We might even get a sunny September anyway!
