i need to end an item (broken) with less than 12 hours to go

but ebay would only let me sell to high bidder, not cancel the bids. i have contacted the bidder to explain why i have cancelled but it seems to have gone through as a sale.

i am trying to get hold of ebay to find out what to do next - i just dont want the them to pay (a lot) for a damaged item. i am really pissed off as i didnt notice it when i took the photos and it was selling for a decent price too

im going to be in trouble with them arent i?

OK - not ethical maybe, but do you want to pm me the item number - I will put in a ludicrously high bid, so will be sure to win the auction. Then once it is over you can do a mutual cancellation to get your fees back so my high bid won't cost you anything, you will just have the listing fees to pay. Of course I won't leave you a neg and you won't have a disgruntled winner. If you want to then send a PM and I will 'win' it for you if you like.

I had this the other day. You'll have to let the auction end as you can't stop it - as you know.

Options are: explain to high bidder and request to cancel the sale. If they've paid for it you can refund back through paypal. They can always refuse to cancel the sale and you will still get charged the final value fee which is annoying for you. I don't know if ebay will help you with this in the circumstances. It's very much weighed towards the buyer I think.
Or you could ask them if they still want it and refund some of the money? I did this and the buyer was quite happy.

thank you. but i thnk that a sale has already gone through . it seemed that was the only option to click when i tried to cancel the bid according to their instructions. so ive no idea what to do now!

accroding to ebay customer services the item is no longer active - which i know because its sold! have contacted the winning bidder but not heard anything.

I had exactly this the other day ended it 10 hours early but it went to the highest bidder

Emailed twice explaining the issue no reply but no payment either

Did the cancel transaction thing through eBay no reply

Now the knob has left a negative saying refused to sell me the item as wasn't happy with the price I won it at

so you have ended the auction to the highest bidder - so that buyer has won the auction at their bid then.

Sadly nothing you can do except reply to the neg.

yes am waiting for that to come - ebay werent that helpful but was entirely my fault. dont want to sell items that arent like new (though used obviously). oh well.

Why would they neg you? Explain you've discovered its broken, and refund straight away. I'd have no problem with that.

oh they havent actually paid yet, i am trying to stop them paying for something!

have emailed them to tell them that on ebay advice i am cancelling transaction - which i assume will be the insruction to pay?

of course i could have just sold it with the defect but thats not really me. i would hate for them to part with good money for something thats not just right.

i hope they understand and wont be too cross. am going to be far more careful when i photograph in future though.
