Should I cancel the auction for an offer?

I haven't been ebaying for very long and just wanted get another opinion. I'm selling quite an expensive item and I didn't want to put a large reserve price down and pay extra ebay fees for it etc as we are desperate for all the cash we can get right now.

Someone has just made me a very good offer for the item, which I would accept, so should I cancel the item and just accept cash on collection?

I'm a bit concerned that they might start haggling when they get there, especially as it will be me on my own during the day of collection?

Are there any scams or pitfalls I should be aware of?

TIA

Hi Lucky

It's against eBay rules to offer to buy or sell outside of eBay & you could get your account closed for doing it.

You could add a buy it now price to the item, then get them to pay with PayPal & collect it. Yes it will cost a little more in fees but not THAT much - & it also means you're protected through eBay and PayPal if anything were to go wrong.

Not saying that anything would go wrong, but I would always err on the side of caution! Maybe that's just me Grin

Oh dear, I'm afraid to say baby brain has got me.

Ignore my last post, I'm clearly talking nonsense!

Right - THIS is what I actually meant!:

Either, take cash on collection

Or

Take payment through PayPal and send by post (you shouldn't be out of pocket from posting) - and ALWAYS send recorded so you have proof of delivery.

I don't like doing cash on collection & would much rather send stuff out by recorded delivery.

Sorry to be confusing... my 5 moth old is full of cold & I've been up since 2am with her. That's my excuse Blush

Oh dear - I know the feeling of baby brain - sorry you have a cold on top of that too!
It's a v v heavy item so cannot post or courier - collection only. I was offering to do a buy it now price with them due to eBay rules.
Do eBay monitor your messages ?? I might just this once cancel the auction and sell outside of eBay as so need every penny right now.
I hate cash on collection too esp when DH is away, I always worry about who will turn up!

To be honest, I would just cancel the offer and do cash on collection.

eBay screw sellers every way they can, so I can't say it bothers me to diddle them out of their cut.

sorry, cancel the auction, I meant
